Coke Studio- “Balaman”

On its website’s introduction page, Coke Studio eloquently states, “Coca-Cola believes that music can bridge barriers, celebrate diversity and bring out something greater than the sum of its parts.” At Indiverve, we absolutely agree with this statement! It delights us that something like Coke Studio exists and that it does such a fantastic job of showcasing some amazing talent. As mentioned in a previous post on Coke Studio, it doesn’t matter if you can’t speak or understand the language of the lyrics because its all about the melody of the song and its about the voices, instruments, and how it carries you away as you listen.

Check out this collaboration from season one called “Balaman” by Ali Azmat and Rahat Fateh, yet another beautifully composed fusion song. Put it on repeat and enjoy every second!

Love: Tribal Cuff Bracelets

We just got in some new samples of different styles of cuff bracelets. Its amazing how many varieties and designs there are out there! If you’ve ever done jewelry shopping in India, you’ll completely understand! Its fun, but sometimes overwhelming trying to decide which ones to choose. We decided to go with a few ethnic styles with lots of small etchings and details. They’re all adjustable too so they will fit any wrist size.

Cuffs have been very trendy lately as seen in fashion magazines and on celebrities, especially at awards shows. Its very common to see fashionable women celebs wearing statement cuffs, adding some dazzle to their overall ensemble. Think the recent Academy Awards and the number of actresses spotted wearing cuffs with their fancy frocks.

These cuffs are a little more casual but still look spectacular worn on their own so we recommend wearing one large one, or if its a smaller size, combining it with one or two thinner bracelets for a cool, bohemian vibe. What a classy way to dress up a plain t-shirt or flowy blouse!

Quote of the Day: Humanitarian and Fashion Icon Bianca Jagger

“Gandhi became my role model. I have always been interested in Eastern philosophy. Since early in my life I’ve been fascinated by India, and I have spent a great deal of time traveling in that country.”

-Bianca Jagger

Human rights advocate and 1970’s style icon, Bianca Jagger once showed up at the famous Studio 54 on a white horse! A very striking woman who was once married to Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones, her style was bold and fun. She could pull off any look from all over sequins and sparkles, to menswear.

Nicaraguan born, she traveled extensively throughout India and was influenced by Gandhi’s non-violent success and eastern philosophy, in general. A founder of her own charity and through work with Amnesty International, she received numerous awards for her humanitarian work over the years. She has written articles and has delivered keynote speeches at conferences and events throughout the world on issues including genocide, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, war crimes against humanity, crimes against future generations, the Former Yugoslavia, Sri Lanka, Central America, Iran, Iraq, India, children and women’s rights, the rights of indigenous peoples, and climate change.

Top 5 Spring Fashion Trends from the Runway

Although us regular people will not likely be wearing the exact looks of the season, as pictured straight off the runways below, we can get inspired and incorporate these trends into our every day outfits. As seen on the runways by some of the most famous fashion designers, here’s the lowdown on the top 5 trends this spring…..

1. PrintsStripes, geometric prints, polka dots, graphic florals, animal prints and tribal, bold prints will be big now and into the spring season. The key to wearing them is to mix and match different ones and choose accessories in the same colour as the print.

2. White– A 60’s influence, all over white is a very fresh spring time look. Mix textures and be sure the items you’ve chosen are both fitted and streamlined- an important rule when wearing all over white. Or keep it simple and don an all- white dress.

3. Pastels– These ultra feminine shades range from mint green and pistachio to lemon and lavender hues. Watch for flirty dresses in all sorts of pastel shades for spring and summer. Another popular colour is blush pink, as seen below:

4. Shine– Sparkly embellishments will be seen all over tops and dresses in the form of sequins and beads. Material with a metallic glow is also part of the shiny look, giving certain items a futuristic feel. Try pairing a chunky scarf and a plain blazer with a shiny dress. Be sure to incorporate only one shiny or metallic piece to your outfit and pair it with neutrals. If shine isn’t your thing, try gold and silver accessories to get a similar look.

5. Neon– Pops of turquoise, orange, lime green, and bright yellow were seen all over the runway for spring season picks. Plus, 2012’s colour of the year, tangerine tango, is quite a bright pop of colour itself!
