Wanderlust | Photography Inspired by Travel

We at Indiverve are in love with the world. We love to travel and it shows in our work. All of our designs are inspired by different cultures and countries, whether it is a colour, a type of embroidery or a method of beading – each and every Indiverve piece is a fusion of Western fashion and fashion from countries around the globe. We have been badly bitten by the travel bug and we aren’t the only ones. Below are photography series that are inspired by travel. French photographer Christophe Jacrot’s stunning series featuring the largest, most dynamic cities in the world (Paris, Tokyo, Hong-Kong) in the rain. The juxtaposing elements of nature and urbanity are the focus of the series. It’s amazing what Jacrot is able to do with a camera as each photo is so different from each other. Some look like paintings as the rain blurs the sharp lines of the city. There are many people who say that Paris is at its most beautiful when its raining. These photos make us believe that this sentiment may be true (although the best way to find out would be to go to Paris and see for oneself!).

Brooklyn-based photographer Zack Seckler has taken a series of aerial photos of the Kalahari Basin in Africa, bringing new meaning to landscape photography for an exhibition called “Botswana”. The photos, which were taken between 2009 and 2010 were taken with the help of a pilot who flew 150 metres above the ground to allow Seckler to capture these incredible images of the wild African landscape. These photos have a microscopic quality to them that is intriguing. Due to the distance, some of these photos don’t even resemble land at all but rather they look like moss, mold, bacteria, thread on fabric. It’s a humbling series in the sense that it shows us how small we are in a big world. The exhibition will be open until February 3rd at the Robin Rice Gallery in New York.

Last, but not least, Bertil Nilsson’s photography series, “Naturally” features professional dancers wearing nothing more than paint, contorting themselves into poses that would make the most experienced of yogis blush. The poses take place in some of the most beautiful locations throughout the world, in countries such as Portugal, Spain, Germany, Australia, France, and England. The poses are often wild and uninhibited but the surroundings are incredibly serene and almost ethereal. The photos are raw, animalic and sexually charged but with a peaceful innocence, as if they were taken of people who are completely themselves and completely at ease.
