Tribal Jewelry Inspiration

We adore the tribal look and how it has influenced bohemian fashion and style. Eclectic, unique, detailed, funky and intricate are just a few words used to describe tribal style. Its interesting to see how the tribal look has become popular in modern and mainstream fashion even though its very traditional and has been worn by women for centuries in many parts of the world- a good example of how fashion recycles itself over and over again over many years.

Tribal style transcends borders and is worn and influenced by all women from well-known celebrities to traditional women who wear it every day as part of their wardrobe. Indian tribal jewelry, in particular, has influenced our designs at Indiverve. We’re in love with the intricate, complicated patterns of tribal jewelry, which we feel are true pieces of art.

A Series of Beauty | Photographic Inspiration

As people working in a creative industry, we are constantly bombarded with inspiration. Whether we search for it or it finds us, creativity is everywhere. This week we came across a few examples of photography that stunned us. Russian photographer, Elena Shumilova has recently showcased a series of photographs that she took of her young sons. Ethereally optimistic, each photo has a softness, a whimsy that is often rare in today’s pin-sharp digital world. We love the simple beauty and innocence of these photos.

Ernest Goh has turned his fascination with animals into a beautiful and often hilarious series of photos titled “Animalia”. His collection of photos featuring seemingly commonplace animals such as roosters and fish, this series is meant to draw attention and appreciation towards animals and the way they function, live their lives and interact with each other.

Colston Julian has created an intoxicatingly raw editorial for Harper’s Bazaar India, in collaboration with Krishna Mukhi. With Pallavi Singh donning couture that is at once contemporary and traditionally India, we couldn’t help but think of our own collection and our design inspiration. With all of our clothes and jewelry being created in India, we are constantly being inspired by this beautiful country and the creative artists who work there. The unadulterated richness of the fabrics and vividness of the colours perfectly complements the somewhat rough and rustic urbanity of the setting.

Must Have Pieces for Your Winter Vacation

The showing of fashion collections is broken down into five different seasons instead of four. There is Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall and then there’s “Cruise”. The presentation of “cruise-wear” is meant to accommodate those lucky ladies and lads out there who are able to forgo the shivery, slushy, snowy madness that is Winter and fast-forward straight into Spring/Summer with the help of a tropical plane ticket or cruise. Our debut collection was created to be a melting-pot of different countries, cultures, styles, trends and in-turn, seasons. Our collection of tunics, dresses, blouses and accessories are meant to be very versatile and as season-less as possible. From our own experience, busy women do not always have the time to adjust their wardrobe from occasion to occasion let alone from season to season. Our clothes are designed in such a way that they can be dressed down or up, or made Summer or Winter appropriate with a simple change of styling. That being said, we have selected five pieces that we know would absolutely stun on a cruise or on a tropical island. With bright, juicy colours and soft, light-weight fabrics, these pieces will keep you looking hot whether you are lounging poolside avec un pina colada or are traipsing barefoot along a Mediterranean beach.

Embellished Tunic Top – Destination: Greece

Image

Crafted out of light-as-air textured cotton, our hand-beaded, rope belted tunic evokes images of white sandy beaches and azure seas and will help you to look like a Grecian goddess.

Floral Print Dress with Red Ruffles – Destination: Italy

Image

This little floral printed number is not only beautiful with a romantic, vintage inspired charm, but it is also ridiculously comfortable and ideal for long walks up the cobble-stoned streets of Italy.

Maxi-Dress in Animal Print – Destination: Bali

Image

It seems that some delicate souls are scared to wear animal print (and with popular culture making feline inspired fabrics synonymous with cheesy night-clubs, heavily teased extensions and Jersey Shore, we can’t say that we blame them). Nonetheless, if the fabrics are of quality and the piece is beautifully cut, animal prints have a raw yet regal elegance that is timeless. Our animal print maxi-dress in frothy chiffon would be ideal for a luxurious dinner in Bali, immediately after getting your yoga on.

Tunic Dress in Abstract Print – Destination: Morocco

Image

This tribal printed stunner is made using a cotton/polyester chiffon vibrantly dyed in a juicy palette of cherry red, tangerine, lemon, violet and pink. With it’s short length and mod silhouette, this little tunic-dress is ideal for shimmying the night away in Morocco.

Embroidered “Kurta” Top in Turquoise – Destination: India

Image

This turquoise tunic is inspired by the traditional Indian Kurta top. It’s loose shape is elegant and laid-back in a bohemian way. With this vibrant, head-turning shade of turquoise and luxurious, hand-done embroidery, this piece is ideal for India, a country rich in culture, colour, and design.

Feel free to let us know your thoughts and if there are any pieces that we have missed!

Indiverve’s Fall Five

It’s almost that time of year again. Summer’s long blissful sunny days shorten and adopt a brisk chill. The streets get busier and traffic becomes even more headache inducing as everyone that had abandoned the city for their vacation getaway comes traipsing back with a tanned, perky vengeance. Necklines get higher and hem-lines get lower, fabrics get thicker, layers increase and shoes provide more coverage – goodbye sandals, hello unpractical dove grey suede booties. Yes, the end of summer is always a bittersweet time. Late August should in fact be considered a season of its own called “Coming-back-to-reality-ember”.  Summer’s fantasies come to an abrupt end and we are forced to trade in our lazy-daisy attitudes for our organized, practical, work-friendly alter-egos.

It’s not all grey skies though (figuratively or literally)! Not only is it the time when the once green leaves blush crimson and coffee shops start making their Fall inspired beverages (pumpkin spice chai anyone?) but  Autumn is also the time to bust out those cozy cardigans, printed silk scarves, sexy patterned tights and boots. How we love the boots.

To help us all get in the mood for Fall, we have presented you with our “Fall Five” – our top five Indiverve pieces that will ease your post-summer blues and help you to happily transition into Fall.

Burn-out Velvet Dress-$87.00-cotton,viscose,lurex

1.  This opulent take on the classic LBD is stunning and perfect for those Fall events (hello Vancouver Fashion Week – September 16th to 21st). The molten gold threads in the printed velvet instantly catch the light and will help to combat grey sky blues. While this flashy little number is best suited for more lavish, celebratory occasions, it can be instantly dressed down with a sexy leather jacket or Kurt Cobain-esque denim jacket for a fun upscale meets urban down-town feel.

5Dm2.IMG_191532.  This cognac colored silky dress is the ideal transitional piece from late Summer throughout Fall. The airy fabric is light enough not to weigh you down on still-warm September days but the colors reminiscent of crunchy fall leaves and spiced apple cider are utterly appropriate for cozy Autumn.

Yellow Lace Patch Scarf- $45.25-linen

3. There is nothing like a gorgeous scarf to add some vibrant life to a life-less, drab, Beetle Juice-esque ensemble. This particular gem with its contrasting linen and lace has an eclectic vintage charm that will make you long for Autumn days of flea-market scouring and coffee-shop lingering. The creamy, butter yellow color is cheerful and surprisingly flattering against every skin-tone – so many people think that they can’t pull off yellow – not the case, it actually diminishes redness in your skin and gives a healthy peaches and cream glow.

coral silk scarf4. With its hand-embroidered, beaded silk, this scarf instantly evokes thought of India and its vibrant culture and people. The intricate beading and opulent embroidery is done completely by hand, giving each scarf a luxurious, exotic aesthetic and feel. In vivid coral, straw yellow and steel grey, these scarves are surprisingly versatile and add a touch of oriental flare to even the most basic, monochromatic Fall ensemble.

IMG_6605hrelllo_large5.  Earthy yet enigmatic, our wooden feathered earrings pay tribute to the majestic environmental beauty of British Columbia. Referencing the province’s vast rainforests and abundant wildlife, these earrings will instantly make you feel at one with mother nature while giving your look a down to earth, bohemian feel.

One of our favorite parts of people watching in the city is seeing all of the different, unexpected ways that some people wear their clothes. We hope that whatever it is that you decide to wear this Fall, whether you decide to launch immediately into cardigans, scarves, and ankle booties, or whether you decide to hold onto your summer attire until the last possible second, we hope that you wear it in a way that is unique to you.

Mango Champagne

Well Halloween is officially over so that means its time to start thinking about the Christmas holiday season! We know, we know, perhaps its a little early to be mentioning the word “Christmas” and “holiday season” but lets face it people, time flies and before you know it the festivities and all the fun, stress, and everything in between will creep up quickly!

On the bright side, there’s usually a lot of fun get togethers that will take place among family, friends and work colleagues. One can never be too prepared so for all the cocktail drinkers out there, we present an Indian inspired and ultra delicious Mango Champagne recipe we came across recently. Another idea is to use this mango lassi recipe and spike it with your favourite alcohol. We recommend a spicy rum. We hope to blog about many more drinks in the next couple of months leading up to Christmas and the New Year.

Enjoy in moderation!

Ingredients

  • 1 can mango nectar (12 oz.)
  • 2 star anise (optional)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 10- 12 black peppercorns
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 bottle Champagne

Preparation

  1. Bring the nectar to a boil in a small saucepan over high heat. Reduce the heat to medium and cook for 2 minutes.
  2. Turn off the heat and add all of the spices. Let the mixture cool, then strain and refrigerate.
  3. Spoon 2 tablespoons of the spicy mango mixture into a Champagne flute and top with chilled Champagne.

*Champagne can be replaced with sparkling wine
