So unless you have been backpacking throughout a foreign, faraway land or have been hiding under a rock, you likely know that the Oscars were on last night, or in other words, the fashion Olympics. There were high moments and low moments throughout the evening (high moment: Cate Blanchett winning for her stunning performance in Blue Jasmine, low moment: Leonardo Dicaprio making it through the entire evening without a Oscar. How?!) but the fashion throughout the evening was all around stunning. All A-listers were dressed to kill and while there were a few looks that we weren’t crazy about (Julia Roberts), there were too many to count that we fell in love with. Here are our top five favorites!
1. Lupita Nyong’o in Prada
We don’t know whether its the beautiful aquamarine colour (which pops against Lupita’s stunning skin) or the simple cut of this a-line dress, but Lupita was the belle of the ball in this Cinderella throw-back dress.
2. Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive
The only thing that stunned more than Cate Blanchett’s performance in Blue Jasmine was her nude, floral dress from Armani Prive. The perfect blend of sexy and subdued, we love how the beautiful peachy hue of the dress works with the ultra-modest neck and hem-line of the dress.
3. Jennifer Lawrence in Dior
Jennifer Lawrence is a knockout obviously. There is nothing like a red dress to get people’s heads turning and this siren did just that in this Dior gown.
4. Emma Watson in Vera Wang
We have to admit, as far as we are concerned, Emma Watson can do no wrong. With her delicate brand of beauty and sophisticated sense of style, there could be no wonder why Emma is known as a fashion icon and is a muse to the likes of Karl Lagerfeld. Once again, she hit it out of the park with this shimmery, elegant black and charcoal dress by Vera Wang.
5. Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab
Gorgeous as always, Angelina Jolie looked radiant in Elie Saab Haute Couture. From the embroidery to the dusty blush colour, and Bau Haus-esque beading, Angelina was mesmerizing. She accessorized well with a dapper looking Brad Pitt on her arm (as much as we love Bohemian styles and sensibilities, we are happy to see his long hair and beard go).
Is there a look that you think we should include? Send us an email at info@indiverve.com and we may include it in our next post (with full credit and links to you of course!).

Paris fashion week is pretty much the most exciting week of our year and lives. Even more so (in our humble opinions) than New York, Milan and London does Paris fashion week bring the most revolutionary, inspiring and breath-taking couture pieces to the runway. The day that we are able to be present for one of these shows is the day we are going to drop to our knees and cry tears of pure fashion joy. From Chanel and Elie Saab to Giambattista Valli, the runways were rife with whimsy-filled collections reminiscent of Marie Antoinette in Versaille or classic fairy-tales such as Sleeping Beauty. Unadulterated luxury and femininity seemed to be the themes of the week. Ethereal laces and printed silks were adorned with iridescent sequins, hand-beading and trails of floral appliques. Though we are inspired by many of the collections that were shown, Giambattista Valli’s romantic and vividly hued collection was the stand-out for us. The soft feminine details were juxtoposed against solid bold colours (think lemon, magenta and cobalt) and lines. Waist-lines were defined with sashes and strategic seams and curves were accentuated with full-skirts. The collection played full tribute to the beautiful nuances of the feminine form and yet very little skin was shown. High-necklines and long sleeves would balance out a shorter hem-line and alternatively, a strap-less bodice would be made more demure with a floor-sweeping gown. In an industry that is so often dominated by sex appeal and skin, it is always refreshing to see the feminine figure celebrated in a different, perhaps slightly nostalgic way. In a world where everything is so accessible, it is really so true that mystery and what one doesn’t see is so often more exciting that what you can see. This was a truly breath-taking collection and we have selected five of our favorite looks from the runway.

Indiverve

Maxi-dresses seemed to be reserved by most people for the spring and summer. We argue that they can be fabulous for any season (even wet and icy winter) when accessorized appropriately. We love Ashley Tisdale’s casual yet effortlessly chic look. With an all neutral palette of slate, taupe, black and silver, she keeps her look dynamic and subtly striking with sequins, a structured jacket and layered pendants.
What’s our take on Miss Tisdale’s understated ensemble?
We would pair either our charcoal grey (for a more subdued look) or leopard print maxi-dress with our silver paisley and turquoise pendants (one a longer 30” chain and the other on a shorter 20” chain) to recreate Ashley’s outfit with our innate bohemian flare.
Maxi-Dress in Charcoal Grey – $75.00
Maxi-dress in Animal Print – $75.00
Paisley Leaf Pendant Necklace – $18.00
Turquoise Stone Pendant Necklace – $18.00

From the beaches to night parties and special occasions during the day, maxi dresses are a major fashion must have this season. These versatile, long and flowy dresses are super-feminine, comfortable to wear, and easy to dress up or down, depending on the occasion. We love this strappy charcoal grey style with a flirty tie front. Shop this dress, as well as a similar style in a funky animal print, from our website here: http://store.indiverve.com/collections/clothing_dresses?page=2
Stay chic during the summer season wearing your maxi dress with flat sandals or wedges. Accessorize the look with a scarf (pattern and colour looks great with our neutral grey hued style), or with a dramatic statement necklace. For our photo shoot at English Bay, we added metallic accents featuring our Braided Leather Belt in Metallic and Metallic Patterned Cuff for some wrist bling. For a little cooler weather, a cardigan or denim jacket looks great over a maxi dress. Check out our Maxi Dress in Charcoal Grey featured at this year’s West Coast Women’s Show’s Step Into Style Fashion Show here in Vancouver.

The little white dress is just as versatile as the classic little black dress that, thanks to Coco Chanel, the fashion world has held so near and dear for many years. The LWD is a crisp, fresh and clean look which can easily be matched with your favourite colourful accessories. Its super trendy right now and its the perfect look for the summer and into the fall (just add tights and a cardigan).
Its fascinating to see how designers are putting their own creative spins on their version of the LWD. Plain, lace, crochet, embellished, and sheer, worn to the office, for lunch or on a date, lighten up in timeless white. Below you’ll find our very own versions of the LWD in three different styles. Each has its own unique details to it.

Our Ruffle Dress in Charcoal Grey is the ultimate feminine look! Crafted in an empire waist baby doll style, it flatters pretty much any body type. Made of a lovely light weight cotton and polyester material, we decided to add a touch of shine with iridescent sequins placed around the neck line. The three quarter sleeves make it a nice choice for cooler months. Wear it with leggings and boots. For warmer seasons, its the perfect dress to wear on its own from day to night. For jewelry, skip the necklace (this dress has enough neck bling on its own), and add a wrist full of bangles or an elegant cuff.
This flirty and functional ruffle dress is available on our website. Check it out plus more of our boho chic styles here. This dress also comes in an abstract black and white floral print which just screams spring time!
